Published June 1, 2005 Yes on Palo Alto's Measure A is crucial to schools The late David Packard was such an advocate for public education that he served on the Palo Alto school board for nine years, all the while tending to his little start-up, Hewlett Packard. He doubtless would have agreed with recent assertions by Bill Gates and other business leaders that America needs to invest in education and better train its students to compete in our global economy. Packard and others created a legacy of excellent schools in Palo Alto that we must sustain through the passage of Measure A, the renewal and $200 increase of the annual school parcel tax on the June 7 ballot. Palo Alto voters, don’t be fooled. If you value your community’s tradition of excellent schools, get out and vote yes on Measure A this June 7. Chris Kenrick
