Who May File for an Exemption:  Residents age 65 as of June 2005 may obtain a parcel tax exemption for their principal residence.  Exemptions from the PAUSD Parcel Tax are available, upon application, to senior citizens (65 years or older) who own and occupy, as a principal residence, a parcel and apply to the District for exemption.  The school district did not want Measure A to be a burden on seniors living on a fixed income.    If you want to support the schools and can afford the cost of Measure A, you can choose not to obtain the exemption.

When to File for an Exemption: The filing deadline for senior exemptions is May 31st, which is the existing deadline for the current parcel tax.  This deadline happens to fall before this year's special election on June 7th.  Any senior who has already applied for the exemption for next year will automatically be covered for the full $493 if the Measure A vote passes on June 7, 2005.  Because the special election is after the exemption filing deadline of May 31st, for this year only, the filing deadline will be extended to June 30, 2005 if Measure A passes on June 7, 2005
